Pocket New Testament - Pope Francis has repeatedly encouraged everyone to carry
always in their pockets the Gospels and to read them daily -even in the ordinary moments of the day such as waiting in line or on the bus.
IDEAS HAVE CONSEQUENCES: THE PHILOSOPHER WHO SHAPED 2020
Friends, I recently addressed the Knights of Malta about this convulsive time in our national history, demonstrated by the global pandemic, unstable politics, and outbursts of violence. But not many people understand the ideologies that stand behind the rioting and deep unrest that we see on our city streets. What I do in this brief presentation is to step back a bit from current events and explore four thinkers who have had a profound impact in shaping the world that we are confronting: Karl Marx, Friedrich Nietzsche, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Michel Foucault. Once we understand some of their most basic ideas, we will recognize their influence everywhere today.
Friends, at the Regional Congress 2.0 Teach event, I presented on the importance of not dumbing down the faith as we engage in religious education. Young people enjoy asking about and discussing the big questions, from God’s existence, to how to be a good and moral person, to the problem of suffering. A disconnect takes place when we meet these intellectual questions with watered-down catechesis. Instead, we must remember the central teachings of Christianity. We must present the fullness of truth, the reality of the Incarnation, and the good news of grace.
Calls into the Depths
(Naval Acadamy USA)
I discussed three sailors from the Bible: the patriarch Noah, the prophet Jonah, and our Savior Jesus Christ.
Friends, I recently spoke to the Catholic educators of the Archdiocese of Vancouver on the importance of sharing the Gospel. We must convey the distinctiveness and demand of Christianity. We must proclaim the resurrection and lordship of Jesus. We must be evangelizers! (2021)

A story of conversion to Catholicism and Vocation to Priesthood
Fr John Boughton (former Naval Officer (Reserve USA) was born a protestant. He was studying to be a doctor when a friend gave him a book by Wayne Weible about the apparitions of Our Lady, Queen of Peace in Medjugorje. He worked for St. David’s Relief during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. After his conversion to Catholicism, he began to discern a vocation to priesthood. Upon the advice of Fr Svetozar (Svet) Kraljevic he decided to join the Community of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFR). He tells the story of how Medjugorje changed his life. (Fruits of Medjugorje)
NOTE: Medjugorje is a place of peace and prayer where over 40 million people have visited the now popular Pilgrimage site. In 2018 Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Henryk Hoser the “Apostolic Visitor” to Medjugorje in steps to officially recognize Medjugorje as a sacred Catholic site. On May 13, 2019 the Holy See officially announced that Dioceses and Parishes throughout the world are officially authorized to organize Pilgrimages to Medjugorje.
