When I was a young soldier, during my basic recruit training, my instructor kept referring to his proud interpretational views of the military as “His Army”, not because he was an egomaniac but simply because he wanted us to feel that in due time it would equally become “our Army”. My career goal was never based on ranks or medals, my aspiration was to make a positive difference for all Canadian Armed Forces members. To be capable to honour all who worn our uniform before us while simultaneously shaping collectively an environment which would allow anyone who is willing to work hard and stand tall to feel they also can belong as the threads which weaves together the Canadian Armed Forces. While being supported by my trade, I also received an enormous amount of professional and personal developments via the Defence Aboriginal Advisory group (DAAG) and from our Indigenous veterans. With good ethics and values balanced with humble patience and continued efforts, when something feels wrong we all have the power to make it right. Life in uniform was not always easy but all the mentors and experiences which I gained along my journey made me who I am today as a soldier, as a father, as a husband and as a human being.
A few years ago (summer 2017), I was promoted to the rank of Warrant-Officer and this morning (Covid-19 summer 2020) I became a Master-Warrant-Officer. This new rank is not mine alone, it is shared by all who worked with me over the years and it is also shared by all who believe in our causes. When one fall, we all fall & when one rise, we all rise.
To conclude, I would like to present my most sincere appreciation to my 4 children, to my spouse and to our elders for their continued support along our path.
